Hackers port Siri onto iPhone 4
Mon, 31st Oct 2011
FYI, this story is more than a year old

Hackers claim to have successfully ported the Siri voice activation feature from the iPhone 4S to a jailbroken version of its predecessor unit, the iPhone 4, as well as the fourth-generation iPod Touch.

The port has the potential to take some of the gloss off the iPhone 4S, which was released recently to the usual Apple adulation but relies largely on Siri as its point of difference.

The hackers, Grant Paul and Steve Troughton-Smith, were posting regular updates about their progress on Twitter yesterday.

The port reportedly runs just as fast on the iPhone 4 and slightly slower on the iPod Touch. However, fans who want to try the port for themselves may have a bit of a wait, with Troughton-Smith saying a release would ‘anger the hive’ and Paul saying simply, ‘No public release soon; don’t ask’.

The iPhone 4S went on sale in 22 more countries over the weekend, but Apple still hasn’t indicated when it may be available here.
