Hit the road with your Model X and a ‘tiny house’: Tesla unveils pod-home in Australia
Tue, 15th Aug 2017
FYI, this story is more than a year old

Tesla is hitting the road across Australia in a tiny house powered by 100% renewable energy.

The ‘tiny house' is full of Tesla's latest renewable tech and it will be touring across Australia to show off the cool technology in some of the country's biggest cities.

The house is designed to be self-sufficient and Aussies can now experience exactly what it takes to reach this point.

The house is powered by Tesla solar panels and Powerwall, the company's preferred energy storing method.

During the tour, Tesla will explain how this technology can be integrated into regular homes to make them more energy efficient.

The company says, “The tour is designed to provide a one-on-one educational experience on how to integrate Powerwall and solar to seamlessly power an entire home, allowing Australian consumers to gain control and understanding of their power use.

The first stop on the Tiny House tour is Melbourne's Federation Square from 14 to 15 August where Tesla staff will be on hand to answer any questions about how Tesla's energy products can help to sustainably power homes, protect users from outages and reduce energy bills.

Tiny House contains a mobile design studio and configurator which can calculate how homes can generate clean energy from the sun using solar panels, storing it in Powerwall to use throughout the day and night, which can all be monitored and controlled by the Tesla app.

The pod weighs two tonnes and uses a solar generation system of six panels stored by one Tesla Powerwall.

Tesla Powerwall is a rechargeable lithium-ion battery designed to enable self-consumption of solar power and reduce reliance on the grid, as well as for full home backup, load shifting and other grid service applications.

It is the second generation of Tesla's original Powerwall product, which was first introduced to customers in 2015.

Powerwall 2 consists of a 14 kWh lithium-ion battery pack, liquid thermal control system to operate at temperatures ranging from -10 to 50+ degrees, an integrated inverter and software that intelligently dispatches electricity when it's needed most.

Up to ten Powerwall's can be stacked to accommodate any sized home which mounts seamlessly on a wall or on the ground, indoors or outdoors, and is integrated with the grid to export excess energy, maximising the opportunity for economic benefit.

Powerwall provides backup power during utility outages and natural disasters.

Powerwall also comes ready to integrate seamlessly with solar, enabling users to self-power their homes and even go off-grid, if they like.
