News: 10000 apps in the Mac App Store, Insanely Simple, iMac clones, and more!

It has been revealed that the Mac App Store is now the home to over 10,000 Mac apps, passing the milestone 15 months after the original launch. You'll remember that Apple announced that the Mac App Store surpassed 100 million downloads in under a year late last year, but it's unlikely that Apple will announce this milestone. Even so, one million downloads within the first 24 hours is still pretty impressive. Insanely Simple: The Obsession That Drives Apple's Success is a new book by Ken Segall that describes the simple truth about Apple. Some who have read it describe it as an alternative to the Steve Jobs biography by Walter Isaacson, but it's more of a complement to the official biography, offering a different perspective into Apple and Steve Jobs.

An iMac clone from a company called Shanzhaiben doesn't run OS X, but it does have all the same looks, as well as a highly recyclable aluminium enclosure. 9 to 5 Mac says this is the nicest iMac clone they've seen, and for $300 it has a decent spec sheet to complete the package.

Speaking of the Mac App Store, the HackStore is about as good a simile of the Mac App Store as it gets. You won't find any pirated apps in the HackStore, but you will find a variety of Mac apps not in the Mac App Store, such as Gimp, FileZilla, and a few other apps.
