NZ iPad 2 launch isn’t March 25th - retail

Fri, 4th Mar 2011
FYI, this story is more than a year old

Apple's iPad 2 press release specifically said that iPad 2 would launch in New Zealand on March 25th along with several other countries.

After going on sale in the US on March 10th, Apple said:

"iPad 2 will then be available in Australia, Austria, Belgium, Canada, Czech Republic, Denmark, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Hungary, Iceland, Ireland, Italy, Japan, Luxembourg, Mexico, Netherlands, New Zealand, Norway, Poland, Portugal, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland and the UK on March 25; and in many more countries around the world in the coming months.

But retail staff for both YooBee/MagnumMac and JB Hi-Fi say this is unconfirmed and most likely won't be the case for New Zealand.

MagnumMac couldn't even say if iPad 2 would be in the country on March 25th, let alone on sale.

When we put that to Apple, a spokesperson simply said, "Please refer back to our iPad announcement made yesterday where we state iPad will be available on 25 March in New Zealand.

So Apple says it is, retail says it isn't. Hopefully, this will become clearer as we approach March 25th.

Oh and if you just bought an original iPad and were hoping to get the same $100 refund that Apple's offering in the US, you're out of luck.

Both YooBee/MagnumMac and JB said that wouldn't be happening here.
