Samsung reveals Froyo update details
Mon, 18th Oct 2010
FYI, this story is more than a year old

The Android 2.2 upgrade will be available to download for Samsung's Galaxy S phone via Kies, Samsung's in-house software upgrade program later this year. Here's what the update contains.

The upgrade brings with it voice-controlled GPS Google Maps with Navigation, faster performance by JIT(Just in Time) compiler, search in-browser, Adobe Flash Player 10.1, and improved customisation options.

  • Google MapsTM with Navigation: GPS navigation system with voice guidance
  • Adobe Flash Player 10.1: Allow the web browser to make full use of the whole web
  • Setup Wizard: Quickly customise and access networks
  • Home Screen/Menu Preview and Edit : Preview by pinch-zoom
  • Search in-Browser : Google, Translate, Wikipedia, Dictionary

There's no mention from Samsung about the fixes for Skype, but the company told us last week that the Froyo update will fix any Skype issues.

The Android 2.2 upgrade will be available from mid-October in the Nordic region and then “gradually rolled” out to other European markets, Southeast Asia, the Middle East Asia, North America, Africa and rest of the world.

When contacted, Samsung told us November or December.
