Star Wars: The Old Republic goes Free to Play!
Thu, 2nd Aug 2012
FYI, this story is more than a year old

In a move that has been rumoured for a while, it has finally been confirmed that Star Wars: The Old Republic will be going free to play this fall (USA, which should be Spring for us downunder).

The MMO, which launched to applause and high reviews last December internationally (Earlier this year for Australia - New Zealand), has been stagnating – according to many players due to lacking end game content and persistent bugs that have not been addressed. Even prior to the game launching, many gamers questioned the feasibility of launching a large subscription based MMO in a market that is transitioning towards predominantly Free to Play models.

Bioware's SWTOR website explains the F2P model, which is similar to others on the market, with continued subscribers being allocated a points allowance to spend at the in-game store and some exclusive game content and features reserved for subscribed players.
