DLC review: Highlands Fishing Expansion for Farming Simulator 25 (PS5)
Farming Simulator 25 came out last year, and it's surprisingly a very popular game. Some of the new animals that were introduced to the game included the likes of Goats, Water buffalo, and even some baby animals.
It's now been a year since the base game came out, and a new DLC is available for Farming Simulator 25. The DLC is called the 'Highlands Fishing Expansion', and this allows you to catch fish for your farm. Let's dive in to see what is included.
New Content and Gameplay
Probably the biggest and best addition of this DLC is that you will receive an all-new map in the game. The new map is called 'Kinlaig', and it's inspired by a town in Scotland. Aside from old architecture, you can also use a fishing boat to ride in a large open sea.
One of the new activities that you can do in the DLC is Aquafarming. This is where you can breed and harvest various types of fish for your farm, including the likes of salmon and rainbow trout.
You can use tanks on land to raise fish, or venture out at sea using fishing boats. You may need to look at a guide to see what you have to do, because the game doesn't specifically tell you what you may need to do next.
In terms of fishing, you can fish on the shore using a rod, or go out at sea using a sports boat to fish on the ocean or rivers in the game. To fish with a rod, you press the R2 button to charge up a cast, and then you wait for an indicator for the fish to appear.
You have to make sure to reel the fish in properly to prevent it from escaping. It takes a while to get used to it, but you will master the controls in no time once you have enough practice.
Aside from fish, another new animal that is a part of this DLC is Highland Cattle. You can raise them just like you can for any other animal in the game.
Price
The only thing that is slightly disappointing about this DLC is that it's a bit pricey if you purchase it separately. If you already own Farming Simulator 25, the DLC costs $48.95 NZD on PS5 and $59.90 NZD on Xbox.
The game and expansion are cheaper if you buy them as a bundle, though. If you buy both the game and the DLC expansion together, it will cost you around $119.90 NZD. However, for people who already own the game, I suggest you wait for a sale to get the expansion.
Overall thoughts
The Highlands Fishing Expansion adds a ton of new and exciting features to the base game, and I can see fans of the game spending several more hours on the DLC. However, the price of the DLC is a bit too expensive for my taste. Waiting for a sale is probably a wise decision to take.
