A year after Ghost of Yotei's release, Sucker Punch has rereleased it as Ghost of Yotei: Complete Edition. This version includes the full game from last year, plus the new DLC that was just released. Let's dive in and see what else is in store with this new version.

Echoes of Sekigahara DLC Expansion

The biggest draw of Ghost of Yotei: Complete Edition is that it includes the new DLC expansion called 'Echoes of Sekigahara. It's a new story that takes place just before Atsu faces off against Lord Saito, who was the mastermind behind her family's death.

In this side adventure, Atsu heads off into a new region called the Ashoro Foothills in search of a bounty for 'Nagato the Handsome'. Nagato is actually a person she knew from three years ago, as they both fought on the same side during the 'Battle of Sekigahara' skirmish.

Once Atsu meets Nagato again, she decides not to kill him because the region is being ravaged by an evil group called 'The Vipers'. The two unlikely heroes decide to team up because they suspect 'The Vipers' are guarding Lord Saito's stash of gold somewhere, and they plan on stealing it from him.

Without giving too many spoilers, the DLC switches back and forth from the past to the present. You get a better understanding of the pair's relationship from three years ago, plus how their bond has grown since then. Not to mention, Atsu will have to kill a lot of Vipers along the way.

Aside from the main story, the DLC also comes with more bounties to collect, as well as a few more side quests. Atsu also has a new mechanic that allows her to catch arrows from mid-air. The Vipers also have attacking methods such as laying down traps and shooting piercing arrows.

The DLC is quite generous because I managed to finish the main story in four hours. You can add another two or three more hours of playtime if you plan on doing all of the aforementioned side quests and bounties.

Most Wanted Mode

The other new content that has been added to Ghost of Yotei: Complete Edition is the 'Most Wanted' mode. This is a single-player roguelite mode where you face off against waves of enemies and kill the main game's bosses all over again.

The coolest part of the 'Most Wanted' mode is that there are now four playable characters. The four characters are Atsu, Oyuki, Nagato, and even Ghost of Tsushima's Jin Sakai makes an appearance.

Each character has a different loadout as well as special moves in their arsenal. Atsu is the only character available at first, because you have to unlock the other characters later by playing through this mode and spending Mon (currency) on upgrades.

Since this is a mini roguelite, you have to make sure you finish a run without dying because there are no checkpoints. Thankfully, after each round, you can replenish some health, so the experience isn't entirely unfair.

As for the length, I managed to finish this mode with Atsu for the first time in just over two hours. This mode will give you more hours of gameplay if you plan on playing as every character and attaining all of the upgrades.

Price

Ghost of Yotei: Complete Edition has a price of $139.95 NZD if you want the DLC and the full game as one package. If you already own Ghost of Yotei from last year, the upgrade DLC will only cost you $23.95 NZD on the PlayStation Store.

$23.95 NZD for DLC seems like a good price considering the story expansion is over four hours long, and the 'Most Wanted' mode has lots of replay value. Not to mention, all users also get the Ghost of Yotei: Legends multiplayer co-op mode that was added to the game for free back in March.

Closing thoughts

If you have never played Ghost of Yotei before, do yourself a favour and get Ghost of Yotei: Complete Edition. As for existing owners, this new content is pretty good because it adds a new region and the 'Most Wanted' mode finally allows us to be different characters.
