FUJIFILM to launch X-T50 mirrorless camera in New Zealand

FUJIFILM has announced the upcoming release of its latest addition to the X Series, the X-T50 mirrorless digital camera, set to be available in New Zealand from 17 June 2024. The X-T50 embodies advanced technology in a compact and lightweight design, boasting a 40.2-megapixel sensor and a state-of-the-art image processing engine.

One of the standout features of the X-T50 is the new Film Simulation dial located on the top plate of the camera, allowing photographers to switch effortlessly between various film-like picture modes. There are 20 different Film Simulation modes, including the newly introduced REALA ACE. These simulations draw from FUJIFILM's extensive history in photographic film manufacturing, dating back to 1934. Peter Bonisch, FUJIFILM NZ GM Imaging Solutions, remarked that photographers could experience a wide array of colour expressions, equating the feature to selecting a specific type of photographic film tailored to the subject or scene.

Weighing approximately 438 grams, the X-T50 comes fitted with FUJIFILM's latest fifth-generation X-Trans CMOS 5 HR sensor and an X-Processor 5. This combination and the camera’s up to 7.0-stop in-body image stabilisation (IBIS) ensure superior image quality in a small and lightweight body. The camera also features a new round-shaped design, enhancing hold performance while maintaining its compact size.

In conjunction with the X-T50, FUJIFILM will also release a new standard zoom lens, the FUJINON XF16-50mmF2.8-4.8 R LM WR, designed to shoot still and moving images in various conditions. This kit aims to provide versatility and high-quality output for a wide range of photography needs. Both the X-T50 body and the new lens will be available in black, silver, and charcoal silver.

The X-T50 incorporates several high-end features, including a back-illuminated sensor that enhances light capture efficiency and an advanced image processing algorithm that ensures high resolution while maintaining a strong signal-to-noise ratio. Additionally, the camera supports ISO 125 as a standard sensitivity, previously used as an extended sensitivity in other models. The new model also offers a fast electronic shutter speed of up to 1/180000 sec, allowing precise exposure control.

Equipped with AI-based subject detection autofocus, the X-T50 can identify a variety of subjects, including animals, birds, vehicles, and even drones, using deep learning technology. An advanced autofocus prediction algorithm facilitates comfortable and efficient shooting, even with fast-moving subjects.

The camera’s array of 20 Film Simulation modes allows users to find the perfect look for their images. The high-resolution sensor supports digital teleconversion for magnifying images up to 2x. The X-T50’s in-body stabilisation, which offers up to 7.0 stops, further enhances shooting capabilities in low-light conditions and during handheld shooting.

The camera also features robust video capabilities, including 6.2K/30P video recording and an autofocus tracking function during filming. An automatic mode can detect scenes and subjects, optimising settings for capturing high-quality stills and videos effortlessly.

In terms of design, the X-T50 boasts a newly adopted round-shaped body, ergonomic grip, and a 1.84 million-dot tiltable rear LCD monitor. A pop-up flash integrated with the viewfinder provides additional utility in low-light situations and backlit environments. The strategic layout of buttons and controls enhances usability and comfort during prolonged use.

The FUJIFILM X-T50 camera is expected to retail at NZD $2,799 for the body only, and the FUJINON XF16-50mmF2.8-4.8 R LM WR lens will be priced at NZD $1,369. Both products will be available at authorised FUJIFILM dealers across New Zealand from mid-June 2024.
