Samsung Electronics has unveiled the Galaxy A5 and Galaxy A3, saying the new phones are ultra slim and geared toward younger consumers seeking 'practicality and functionality'.

Stefan Lecchi, Samsung Electronics New Zealand head of telecommunications, says the new Galaxy A series smartphones are a response to demands for ‘slick, responsive and good-looking devices', especially from a discerning younger target audience.

“The 18 to 25 year age group are clever, connected and mobile. They are high users of social media, are passionate about music, fashion conscious and need a device that can keep up with their lifestyle. The Galaxy A5 and Galaxy A3 absolutely deliver that,” says Lecchi.

“The Galaxy A5 and Galaxy A3 offer a beautifully crafted full metal unibody, slim design, superior hardware and the best possible social media experience,” says JK Shin, Samsung Electronics CEO and head of IT and mobile communication.

The Galaxy A5 and Galaxy A3 are Samsung's slimmest smartphones to date, featuring refined full metal unibody designs measuring at 6.7mm thin for the A5 and 6.9mm thin for the Galaxy A3.

Each device will be available in Pearl White, Midnight Black, Champagne Gold and Platinum Silver.

Both phones have an advanced 5MP front-facing camera and photo-taking features such as Wide Selfie, Palm Selfie, Animated GIF, Beauty Face Features, and Rear-cam Selfie.

Users are also able to quickly and easily share photos or videos on their favourite social media channels with the device's fast networkspeed of LTE Category 4 standard.

Both devices are equipped with a Super AMOLED display and Adaptive Display technology. They are also fitted with a Quad Core 1.2 GHz processor to enable multi-tasking and faster browsing.

In addition, the Galaxy A5 and Galaxy A3 include features exclusive to Galaxy devices, such as Ultra-Power Saving Mode, Private Mode and Multiscreen, as well as adjustable audio which adapts sound output based on the user's surrounding environment.

The Galaxy A5 and Galaxy A3 are available in selected, 2Degrees, Vodafone and Spark stores. Colours and devices will vary by store.
