The massive e-retailer known as Mighty Ape is now offering customers a new way to pay for their goods.

More than 350,000 New Zealand customers will now be able to use Afterpay, which is a ‘buy now, pay later' service – finally. Previously it was only an option for Mighty Ape's Australian customers.

What is Afterpay, you might ask? Afterpay offers interest free payment plans for online and in-store purchases. You buy an item and then pay it off in four fortnightly payments – and it's all interest free.

Essentially, it's a way of helping people spread their payments out and to avoid credit card debt.

This is the first time the company has offered this form of payment on its website, and Mighty Ape's Gracy MacKinlay says it's exciting to be able to offer it.

“Mighty Ape's customers are at the core of everything we do. In addition to an exceptional customer experience and outstanding delivery service, customers can now take the advantage of increased payment flexibility while still getting hold of their purchases immediately,” says MacKinlay.

“Before Afterpay launched in New Zealand, Mighty Ape offered Afterpay as a payment option on their Australian site. When speaking to customers through a survey, over 1,400 responses stated overwhelming feedback about how Afterpay helped them with managing their spending and half of the respondents noted various other benefits outside of just financial ones.

The service will be offered through Mighty Ape's online checkout, where customers will be able to select Afterpay as their preferred method of payment.

Mighty Ape's head of New Zealand market development Alexandra Janjic says it's good news for Afterpay ‘loyalists' – and of course she takes the time to promote the platform…

“Mighty Ape have some amazing deals on books, movies and TV, games, electronics and PCs, homewares and toys. Over 700,000 products across 15 departments are stocked in their 10,000 square-metre distribution centre in Auckland for overnight or same day delivery nationwide,” she says.

“Afterpay loyalists can look forward to taking advantage of their great deals, massive range and exceptional delivery service, whilst knowing they have the freedom to pay via manageable fortnightly, interest free instalments.
